Pre CHAN Mini Tournament: Mckinstry Reacts To Uganda’s Win Against Zambia

Uganda beat Zambia 2-0 in their second match of the Pre CHAN Mini Tournament on Monday at Annex 1-Omnisports- in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Vianne Sekajugo and Steven Mukwala were on target for the Cranes to earn their side their first win of the campaign.

In the buildup to the match in Yaounde, one of the biggest talking points was on two old friends Uganda Cranes head coach Johnathan McKinstry and Zambia’s Chipolopolo Milutin Micho Sredojevic. Both coaches had targets to hit in this match but McKinstry came out on top.

After the match, Cranes tactician Mckinstry gave his insight into the clash

“We are very pleased following our second game here in Cameroon after what was a very positive performance against the host Nation a few days ago with ten men. In addition, decided to basically change everybody in the team,” Mckinstry told FUFA website.

“We made ten changes in the starting lineup but maintained one in Tonny Mawejje and that was purely to make sure the midfield had the right balance. Also, we knew before the game that he would come out at halftime and Shafik Kagimu would come in.”

“To win 2-0 against a quality Zambia team, I felt we deserved it because we created quality chances in the game.”

Overall, Mckinstry believes that it was a more difficult game than the Cameroon game saying that Zambia created more problems for  his side compared to the Cameroon side, but that then goes back to players to show their resilience and organization.

Mckinstry also adds that the mini tournament has helped all teams to prepare well for the official matches in CHAN.
