Express 1-1 SC Villa

Coach George Ssemwogerere allowed himself to bask in Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Express although he though Express should have won. The Red Eagles put an enterprising display against Douglas Bamweyana’s side, who secured a point in the closing stages after Shafiq Bakaki headed home his first league goal of the season with eight minutes to play. Disan Galiwango had put the hosts ahead in the 72nd minute after a sole effort. The left winger took on SC Villa defense on the left before slotting a low shot far right. “We wanted to win but also had a big team in front of us. I knew Villa play with a 3-man defense and a five-man midfield that is why I put two strikers at the start to pull them back. But after we played and forced them to drop back, I added in the midfield to counter theirs and perhaps dominate,” noted Ssemwogerere in a post match press conference. “For us the performance is good. We pushed and worked in the match, doing our things tactically and with our supporters pushing with energy. Four our supporters and us I think it is a great match but I am happy only 50% because I wanted to win,” added Ssemwogerere. SC Villa fans meanwhile waited for coach Bamweyana after the match and asked him to quit. It means that Express remained 11th with 33 points after 26 games whilst SC Villa are just a place from relegation, sitting 13th with 27 points, three above 14th placed Ndejje University with four games to go. Jogoos host Ndejje University next Tuesday at Namboole stadium in the battle for relegation while the Betway-sponsored Red Eagles returns to action on Saturday as they visit table leaders KCCA FC at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo
