She Cranes head to South Africa for African Championship

The Uganda national netball team (the She Cranes) was flagged off to Cape Town, South Africa to defend their Africa Netball title they won last year in Malawi two years ago.

A contingent of 11 players and 10 officials was flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) Vice-chairman technical Hajji Zubair Galiwango on Monday at Lugogo before flying out later in the day aboard South Africa Airways.

“The team has been facilitated according to the budget that was given to us,” Galiwango noted. Irene Mirembe, the team captain assured Ugandans that the month-long training has sharpened the much-changed team with debutants to defend the title.

Uganda opens up title defence against Zimbabwe this Friday before meeting Tanzania and Kenya on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
