Uganda Badminton Association partners With City Tyres ahead of All Africa Senior Championships

Event: All Africa Senior Championships (AASC)
Dates: 14th – 20th February 2022
Venue: Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Kampala

Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has been handed a major partnership boost from Mandela Group through their City Tyres brand ahead of the All Africa Senior Championships (AASC).

This development was confirmed on Tuesday at the City Tyres offices in Kampala with the event proper slated for 14th – 20th February 2022 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

Among others, City Tyres has purchased trophies for several winners that will be given away, as well as dripping the Lugogo Arena. 41 accolades are set to be dished out to respective winners.

Speaking on behalf of City Tyres, Herbert Bashasha who’s the company’s spokesperson revealed that Mandela Group’s continued partnership with UBA which is about a decade old is because of their love for sports as they have supported other disciplines as well.

UBA CEO Simon Mugabi who lauded City Tyres for the partnership revealed that the event will be played by both men (Thomas) and women (Uber) with 15 men’s and 12 women’s entries registered. Two countries however sent players for individual competitions.

“We have had massive entries and the best players and countries from the continent will come down here. 17 countries will be represented and I believe the event will be very competitive,” Mugabi who was flanked by UBA Chairperson Annet Nakamya told the media adding that the showpiece is a qualifier for the May 2022 World Badminton Championship set to be held in Bangkok Thailand.

Team events will run from Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th whilst individuals events will be happening from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th, but the draws will be conducted on Sunday, 13th just a day before the tournament starts.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) President, Patrick Kanyomozi also attended the event and lauded UBA for continuously organizing top notch events. He was flanked by badminton enthusiast Vaheed Muhammed.

The countries that will grace the showpiece are; DR Congo, Cameroon, Egypt, Botswana, Benin, Algeria, Ghana, Zambia, Mauritius, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and hosts Uganda.

Uganda will be represented by a team of 12 players, six female and six males, that is; Women; Husina Kobugabe (C), Tracy Naluwooza, Awori Brendah, Wanyana Sharifah, Samusha Rajab, Fadhila Shamika. and Men: Wanagalya Israel(C), Atama Friday, Muyanja Amos, Mwambu Kenneth, Makande Paul and Kasirye Brian.
