Vincent Arnold Kasasa has retained his position as National Team Coach of the Uganda men’s senior national hockey team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) slated for January 2022 in Accra, Ghana.
Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) on Monday, 4th October announced the appointment of the technical bench for the senior teams (men and women) with the continental showpiece around the corner.
Kasasa sealed his spot as men’s tactician when he guided the Uganda men’s team to two wins, one draw off three games against Kenya during the FIH ratified test series held in March this year in Nairobi. After the Nairobi event, Ugandan national teams attained the FIH Men’s and Women’s World Rankings, which they last had in 2007 when the senior men’s team had an engagement – the 2008 Olympic qualifiers.
Kasasa, an FIH Level 3 Coach says that he’s honored to continue working with the side he oversaw dominate Kenya in the test series just a few months ago.
“I feel honoured to have been given a chance once again. I am the first coach in the history of Uganda hockey to get the national team a win and I will be proud to do that once again,” Kasasa said after the announcement of the technical bench.
Kasasa who coaches local side Weatherhead adds that the Accra do will be a stepping stone career-wise for the players and coaches.
The Uganda technical bench has three Italian nationals who have recently helped export Uganda’s talent to their country. Francesco Richichi retains his position as Head Coach for both men and women’s sides, Antonio Spignolo is goalkeeping coach while Massimiliano Paolotroni is physiotherapist.
The national teams will start training for the ACN when local competitions come to a close in a few weeks time.
