Uganda is set to host four legs of the Safari Tour this year.
According to the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) 2021 activity calendar released recently, the nation will host four Safari Tour legs in a space of about two months, that is between early September and early November.

Foreign professional golfers (pros) may be forced to camp in or frequent traveling to Uganda for the four legs of the Circuit that will be played at three clubs.

The four events are; Uganda Open, Independence Open, Serena Open and Entebbe Open.

The first Ugandan leg of the Safari Tour will be the pros event of the 2021 Uganda Open Golf Championship that will be held at Entebbe Club.

The exact date for the Uganda Open pros event hasn’t been established by UGU yet but it will most likely wind down during the first weekend of September with the four-in-one championship teeing off in mid August with juniors, ladies and amateur events respectively.

Zimbabwean golfer Robson Chinhoi of Royal Harare Golf Club is defending champion of the pros event of the Uganda Open after winning last year’s edition with 15 under par (a total gross score of 273).

The Independence Open will be the second leg of the Safari Tour and it will tee off on 9th October 2021 running for four days. This event which is played annually at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club in commemoration of Uganda’s Independence from colonial rule used to be a one-day showpiece. It is a new addition to the Uganda Safari Tour calendar.

The Serena Open will be the third Safari Tour event in Uganda and it will tee off on 30th October running for four days at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. Last year’s event wasn’t held due to Covid-19 disruptions. The previous edition held in 2019 was won by Kenyan pro Dismas Anyonyi Indiza.

The final Safari Tour event in Uganda will tee off on 5th November running for four days at Entebbe Club. The 2020 edition wasn’t held due to Covid-19. Kenyan pro Jastas Madoya won the 2019 event.

Last year, Uganda hosted only two Tour events, that is; Kitante Open and Uganda Open but the former will not be held this year.

Safari Tour legs which used to only happen in Kenya were introduced to Uganda and other East African countries in the 2019 golf season.

Safari Tour events across East Africa are used as yardsticks to ascertain top 8 Kenyan and two regional (non Kenyan) pros, who will join the rest of the world for the European Tour Magical Kenya Open.
