The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) saw dramatic results on Thursday, November 21, 2024, as NEC ascended to the top of the league table, ending KCCA FC’s unbeaten streak with a narrow 1-0 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
Muzamiru Mutyaba, a former KCCA midfielder, delivered the decisive blow in the 20th minute, silencing the Lugogo faithful.
NEC’s resolute defense ensured they walked away with all three points, taking their tally to 19 points from nine games.
With this defeat, KCCA—previously unbeaten in eight matches—slipped to second place with 18 points.
Notably, the fixture marked the first home defeat for both sides this season, as NEC and KCCA share the MTN Omondi Stadium as their home ground.
The result also means all 16 teams in the league have now suffered at least one loss this season.
Meanwhile, in Kavumba, Nicholas Fredrick Kigozi’s superb free kick in the 73rd minute earned Maroons FC a 1-0 win over Soltilo Bright Stars.
The victory propelled Maroons five places up the table to sixth, with 12 points, while Bright Stars remain in relegation trouble, sitting third from bottom with just six points.
At FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, Express FC salvaged a dramatic 1-1 draw against BUL FC. Walter Ochora put BUL ahead in the 42nd minute, but Samuel Ssenyonjo’s last-gasp equalizer ensured Express avoided defeat.
BUL remain fourth in the standings with 13 points, tied with Express but ahead on goal difference.
