UPL: Vipers aim to cement top spot as Maroons, Express, and Bright Stars seek vital wins

Matchday 15 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) begins with three crucial fixtures that promise to shape the first round’s standings.

At Kitende, table leaders Vipers SC (31 points) will host Maroons FC in the marquee clash under the floodlights at 7:00 PM.

The Venoms, unbeaten at home but held to three consecutive draws, need a win to secure their spot as first-round champions.

However, Maroons, buoyed by their narrow 1-0 victory over Mbale Heroes, will be looking to cause an upset, with a top-three position within their reach if they take maximum points.

Earlier at 4:00 PM in Bombo, UPDF hosts Express FC in what has historically been a fiery encounter. Express, rebounding from a crushing defeat to Kitara with a victory over Bright Stars, enter the match as favorites. A win could propel them to third place. However, UPDF has been formidable at home, losing only once this season. They currently sit 11th but could climb to 8th with a victory.

At Kavumba, Soltilo Bright Stars and Lugazi FC clash in a critical relegation six-pointer. Bright Stars, currently in the bottom three with nine points, are desperate for a win to close the gap on their opponents, who sit just above the relegation zone with 13 points.

Lugazi, coming off a narrow 2-1 loss to Express, will aim to maintain their advantage in the standings.

Meanwhile, Kitara’s free scoring run was ended by struggling Wakiso Giants on Sunday following a goalless draw at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
