This month’s Uganda Sports press association (USPA) monthly meeting started with members condemning the inhuman acts of Rtd. Maj. Gen Matayo Kyaligonza on their colleague Peter Otai and a traffic officer.

Magala

The retired UPDF officer and current Uganda Ambassador to Burundi, together with his two guards, harassed Sgt Esther Namaganda who had stopped them from making a U-turn in the middle of a road in Seeta, Mukono District.

And when an onlooker Otai, a Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) employee intervened to inquire why an officer on duty was being humiliated, he was also beaten and survived with injuries.

“As USPA we condemn such inhuman acts; not only at our own Otai, but also the traffic officer and the entire Ugandans. We pray for justice to prevail for all the parties affected physically and psychologically,” noted USPA President Patrick Kanyomozi.

The members also stood in solidarity with the Observer news paper that had been barred from operations by URA over an alleged tax debt of over Shs2bn.  At the same sitting held at imperial Royal hotel, Kampala on Monday, the sports scribes unanimously voted female golfer Eva Magala as the best athlete of last month (February). Magala won the Nigerian Ladies Open, beating over 200 international golfers.

Magala beat Jacob Kiplimo, who won the national marathon trials and Aisha Nakiyemba, who was a quarter finalist at last week’s Uganda International badminton Open.

The annual Nile Special USPA Gala was also confirmed for next month April 15 at imperial Royal where last year’s (2018) best athletes from 38 sports disciplines will be crowned.

The association’s constitution was also amended –with among others creation of an elderly council to advise the association leadership and assembly as the new inclusion.
