With the Uganda Premier League already sealed, Vipers SC head to Hoima this Saturday in search of another feather in their cap—a place in the Uganda Cup final, and a chance to complete a glittering domestic double.
The Venoms travel to Kitara’s backyard for the decisive second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-finals, holding a narrow 1-0 lead from the first encounter in Kitende, where talisman Yunus Sentamu once again proved to be the difference-maker.
The paths of these two sides continue to cross at Uganda Cup level. This is the third straight season that Vipers and Kitara clash in the knockouts, and it’s clear there’s little love lost between them. Kitara famously dumped Vipers out last year on penalties, and the memory of that stings.
But this season tells a different story. The Venoms have the edge, winning three of their four encounters with Kitara across all competitions—most recently, a commanding 2-0 away win in Hoima that clinched their league crown. Yet, cup football is a different beast. And Kitara, still the reigning champions, won’t go down quietly.
With their fourth Uganda Cup title within touching distance, Vipers are treating this semi-final like a final. Head coach Fred Muhumuza and technical lead John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda are keeping their squad grounded, aware that Kitara’s fortress is no easy place to visit.
Vipers are unbeaten in this year’s Cup journey, and with the likes of Sentamu, Okello, Karisa, and Mulongo all in form, they believe they have the ammunition to finish the job.
For Kitara, this is more than just another game—it’s a fight for pride, for their title, and for their fans. Arthur Kiggundu and the backline will be under pressure to keep out Vipers’ potent attack, while Zaga Tumwesigye and Titus Ssematimba must find the creativity to unlock the visitors.
