Stanbic Uganda Cup

Tuesday Quarter final result

Proline 1-2 Vipers SC (AET)

Vipers SC chances of clinching a season double were darkened on Tuesday following a 2-1 away fall to second division side Proline at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo. This was the last quarter final match of the 2018/19 Stanbic Uganda Cup after Bright Stars, Express and Kyetume had already stormed the last four. Skipper Nordin Bunjo opened the scoring with a wonderful left shot from inside the area in the 26th minute Venoms skipper Tadeo Lwanga leveled matters after the break following Proline’s defense failure to clear the ball in the 78th. The midfielder would later limp off with a knock. Dominant Proline that forced Vipers goal keeper Benjamin Ochan into a couple of astonishing saves then got the winner in the extra time following a 1-1 normal time stalemate. Ibrahim Bunyo headed home Hakim Kiwanuka’s beautiful cross from right inside the second part of extra time as the Shafik Bisaso side stormed the semi finals of the competition for the first time. “We played well but missed a lot of chances. It was an entertaining game and Vipers gave their all although the best team won. We have no pressure in this tournament but we want to go as far as we can. Our primary target is the return to the premier league,” Bisaso noted after the game. For Vipers Coach Michael Ouma, Proline was the better side. “We lost fairly. Proline were better than us and now, let us focus on the league,” conceded Ouma, whose side was eliminated by Paidha Black Angels at the same stage in 2016 at Kitende. the Kenyan tactician also down played reports that there is a rift between him and newly signed Diego Hamis Kiiza after the striker defied Ouma’s orders to drop back and defend a corner. Kiiza is said to have maximum backing of the club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa -the reason he has reportedly turned ‘untouchable’. Reigning champions Vipers are second on the premier league table, 4 points behind leaders KCCA FC with seven games to go whilst both side’s chance of returning to continental football lying in winning the premier league.
