Watoto Church has officially launched the third edition of the Watoto Golf Tournament, a week-long fundraising and sporting event aimed at raising UGX 450 million to empower 1,000 vulnerable mothers across Uganda through business starter packs and holistic livelihood programmes.
Held under the theme “Hope on the Green,” the tournament will run from August 3 to 8, 2026, at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, bringing together corporate leaders, government representatives, development partners, professional golfers, elite amateurs, caddies and members of the public to support a shared cause of restoring dignity and strengthening families.
The tournament will tee off on August 3 with competitions for caddies, followed by the Elite Amateurs Tournament from August 5 to 7 and the Professional Golfers Tournament from August 5 to 8. The event will culminate in the main tournament on August 8, featuring corporate teams, sponsors, partners and invited guests.
Beyond the competition, organisers say this year’s edition marks the beginning of Watoto Church’s eight-year journey towards 2034, when the ministry will celebrate its 50th anniversary. By then, the church aims to have empowered 10,000 vulnerable mothers across Uganda and South Sudan.
According to the organisers, a contribution of UGX 450,000 provides one mother with the resources needed to start a small business, helping her achieve financial independence while improving the wellbeing of her family.
“When you empower a mother, you strengthen a family. When you strengthen families, you transform communities,” the organisers said during the launch.
The tournament also celebrates excellence in golf, with a total prize structure of UGX 34 million. Of this, UGX 24 million will be awarded in prize money across professional, amateur and caddie categories, while UGX 10 million will be contributed directly to the Watoto empowerment programme.
Championship trophies will be awarded to winners in the Professional, Elite Amateur and Caddies categories.
Speaking at the launch, the Captain of Uganda Golf Club welcomed the continued partnership with Watoto Church, saying golf provides a unique platform for bringing together individuals and businesses to support meaningful community initiatives.
“We are proud to once again host the Watoto Golf Tournament at Uganda Golf Club. Golf has the unique ability to unite individuals and businesses around causes that change lives, and we encourage more golfers and corporate partners to be part of this year’s tournament as we make a lasting impact in our communities,” he said.
The Managing Director of CFAO Mobility Uganda reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in initiatives that create sustainable social impact.
“At CFAO Mobility, we believe businesses have a responsibility to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities they serve. Partnering with Watoto Church for this tournament allows us to invest in women whose businesses will strengthen families and contribute to Uganda’s economic growth,” he said.
Deo Akope, President of the Uganda Professional Golfers Association and founder of the Deo Akope Foundation, also pledged continued support for initiatives that use sport to drive positive social change.
The launch recognised several partners and sponsors supporting this year’s tournament, including Handel Advocates, M&K Advocates, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, ONOMO Hotel Kampala, Fairway Hotel, the Uganda Golf Union, the Uganda Professional Golfers Association and the Deo Akope Foundation.
In a closing statement, Watoto Church described the tournament as more than a sporting event.
“The Watoto Golf Tournament 2026 is more than a competition; it is a movement of hope. As we begin this journey towards 2034, every player, every partner and every supporter becomes part of a story that restores dignity to mothers, creates opportunities for families and transforms communities,” said Ps. Edward Mwesigye, Pastoral Team Leader at Watoto Church, on behalf of Watoto Ministry Team Leader Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo.
Founded in 1984, Watoto Church Uganda has grown into a global ministry focused on discipleship, community development, child care and family empowerment through initiatives that seek to improve the lives of vulnerable communities in Uganda and beyond.
