Abbey Bagalana beat Becca Mwanja in sudden-death playoffs to win the Professionals (pros) event of the Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament during the event’s final round on Friday, 12th March 2021 at Uganda Golf Club‘s par-72 course in Kitante.

After two rounds (Thursday and Friday), Bagalana and Mwanja both emerged atop the leaderboard with 3-under par 141.

Mwanja was day one leader with 4-under par 68, leading second placed Bagalana by one stroke. The former shot 1-over par on day two while the latter managed level.

With scores even after 36 holes, the tie had to be resolved by sudden death playoffs and matters were taken to holes 12, 17 and 18. However, Bagalana won in just hole 12 with a bogey.

“This means a lot to me because I was looking for a victory of this kind. Of late I have been playing well so I knew I was going to win it,” Bagalana said after his triumph from the two-day event.

“The greens were too slow for me in terms of putting but I tried my best. It was a little bit challenging and it took much time for me to adjust to my chipping stroke,” Bagalana noted adding that he has his sight set on future tournaments.

13 out of 28 pros, all domestic players, made the cut and shared the Eight Million Shillings pro kitty according to their performance.

Philip Kasozi and Herman Deco Mutebi were tied third on 2-under par 142 while Deo Akope finished fifth off 1-under par 143.
