Kenya men and women national hockey teams will play host to their Ugandan counterparts in test matches slated for Thursday, 18th March 2021 to Sunday, 21st March 2021 at Sikh Union Club in Nairobi.
With the event just hours away, the host nation has named its teams to face their neighbors who reached Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Kenya hockey website, the hosts are bunking on experience as they seek to come good against their familiar rivals.
Both Kenyan teams (men and women) headed to camp today with a 20-player squad each, including the likes Of James Muthii, Kennedy Munialo and Constant Wakhura in the men’s squad while Elenor Chebet, Caroline Guchu and Lynn Mwangi feature for the women’s squad.
The players did a mandatory COVID-19 test at City Park today as required by the Government and sports ministry/federations.
The test series was organized and confirmed after the cancelation of the Northeast Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) Hockey Qualifiers that were scheduled to kick off this month in Nairobi.
The Men and Women qualifiers were canceled after only the hosts and Uganda confirmed their participation to Africa Hockey Federation. Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Seychelles, and Egypt did not commit to attend. Kenya and Uganda automatically qualified for the event proper, Hockey Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) slated for January 2022.
Uganda on the other hand will capitalize on the showpiece to attain international ranking as they seek funding from the international body, FIH.
