The second season of the Kololo Youth Tennis League (KYTL) served off last weekend at East Kololo Primary School Tennis Courts. The first season came to a close in January this year.

The league that is organized by Tennis For All Uganda will run for 10 weeks, on every Sunday and it will be capped with a finale to determine eventual winners.

According to League Coordinator – Julius Kyobe, the second edition has served off on a high note with youngsters showing an overall improved display with new entrants in the mix.

“There is player performance improvement and the competition is very high and players are happy to serve off the new season. The difference between the first season and second season is that there are a lot of new players that have joined the league especially in the second division where we had six players but now we have 17 players,” Kyobe said.

The league is played in two divisions whereby the first division has players from the age of 14 to 18 years. The second division has players from age group of 12 to 14 years.

There are 15 players in first division which is the senior category and 17 players playing in second division which is the junior category.

In the normal season, matches are played in a round robin format but a knockout format will be used in the finale that will have the best eight players in each category.
According to Kyobe, so far there are two tennis academies in the league that is; Tennis For All Uganda and Let’s Play Tennis Uganda but all players in the league play as individual players not for the academies.

Kyobe further says that the reopening of schools for semi candidates has had an impact in the league but they’re still going strong.

“We had few semi candidate players in boarding school who had to pull out of the league as they had to go back to school but most of the players are in day school and are able to play on Sundays,” Kyobe noted.

Covid-19 SOPs meant to curb the possible spread the pandemic are adhered to with those found breaching protocol penalized.
