Rugumayo wins pro category of Captain's Bell Golf Tournament

Captain’s Bell Golf Tournament

Local professional (pro) Ronald Rugumayo shot an overall 5-under par 139 in two rounds to win the professional category of the Captain’s Bell Golf Tournament on Friday at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante.

The main event of the tournament will be held today, Saturday, 22nd May with an award ceremony and 19th hole experience slated for later in the evening at the club terrace.

Rugumayo started the Absa Bank Uganda powered tournament on a high note, shooting 6-under par 66 in the opening round on Thursday. Albeit returning 1-over par 73 on day two, his good display on day one ensured that he finished atop the 30 players who graced the do and also claim the biggest chunk of the 8 Million Shillings pro kitty.

Second placed Denis Anguyo had an overall level 144 after shooting level 72 in both rounds.

Silver Opio and Richard Baguma tied for third with an overall 2-over par 146 after two rounds.

Only 12 top players will get part of the pro kitty but according to performance.

However, the only lady in the professional category, Flavia Namakula finished 18th. She shot an overall 12-over par 156 to finish above 10 players. She made a 10-shot improvement on day two having returned 11-over par 83 in the opening round.

Abbey Bagalana who was one of the top favorites in the buildup tied for 13th with four other players. He shot an overall 10-over 154 after two rounds having returned 5-over par 77 in both rounds.

The Captain’s Bell tournament is expected to attract about an overall 200 players.

Other partners for the tournament are; Johnnie Walker, Pepsi and Wine To Be.
