Sadik Nasiwu is back as Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) President after registering a landslide victory during the federation’s Elective Congress held on Sunday at the  National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.

Sadik Nasiwu who led the volleyball fraternity way back between 2008-2016 (two terms) swept the weekend polls after bagging 227 votes as incumbent Hadija Namanda trailed with 20 Votes while 3rd time contestant Eddie Okila had 27 Votes from a total of 284 delegates.

Nasiwu, an Internal Auditor at FIVB and Executive Member at Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has promised to set the ball flying with immediate effect as he seeks to reinstate competitive play, among other various targets.

“We’re going to start work right away. We are going to start planning on how to start the leagues among other things,” Sadik Nasiwu told the media after being declared winner.

Nasiwu and his team have an urgent task at hand, that is to organize the 2020 Women’s U20 African Nation’s Volleyball Championship slated for 18th – 26th February in Kampala.

“We’re not new here so we shall ensure the tournament is a success. Our national team is currently training and we shall deliver,” Nasiwu added.

Overall, Nasiwu who will lead volleyball for the next four years believes that the overwhelming win is a sign of trust people have in him and he hopes to return the favor.

“I know the expectations are high so we need to make sure we deliver. I trust that the new executive will do a good job for volleyball,” Nasiwu added.

Among others, Nasiwu has promised to work on the following areas; strengthening competitions in all levels of the game, capacity building, grassroots development, mobilizing resources for the game and the like.

Nasiwu will be working with familiar faces as former General Secretary and Treasurer Godwin Nakaana Ssenyondo and Joseph Odong are back to the UVF Executive Committee.
