Uganda Premier League: Onduparaka FC vs Vipers SC

Saturday, February 27, 2021 @1 PM

@AbaBet Greenlight Stadium

Vipers SC have the opportunity to move back to the top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) when they face Onduparaka FC today at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium, Arua.

A win in Arua will take Vipers back to the top of the league. Vipers are currently second with 21 points, just one behind Express who beat Wakiso Giants FC 3-0 yesterday to ascend to top on 22 points. However, Onduparaka are seventh with 16 points.

Vipers have never picked maximum points at Onduparaka’s backyard but are unbeaten on the road this season. The Venoms have drawn thrice and lost once away to Onduparaka and have never scored a goal there.

However, Vipers seek to break the Greenlight Stadium duck as they aim to climb back to the top and also retain the title at the end of the 2020/21 season.

“There is no easy game, every match is more like a final for us. We try to give in our all and also make sure we improve with each game. We have not won here before, yes it’s a trend we believe we can change if we do everything right. We can’t forget that we are handling a game at a time, step by step and hope to accomplish our target,” Vipers captain Halid Lwaliwa told the club website.

Even though Vipers are still unbeaten on the road this season, their last victory came last December against Busoga United at the Fufa Technical Center and have since then registered draws.

Former Onduparaka Captain Muhammad Shaban now at Vipers will be one of the major players in the match as he turns guns to his former bosses.

Vipers head into the fixture following a 1-0 victory against BUL FC last time out. However, Onduparaka lost 3-1 against Police FC last time out.
