Uganda’s Dr. Joseph Kalanzi has been appointed to the World Rugby Committee on Player Medical Welfare. He will lead Africa on the global committee together with Elvis Tano of Cote D’Ivoire. The Global head of the committee is the World Rugby General Manager- Training & Education, Jock Peggie and the committee has representation from each of the continents.

Kalanzi brings a wealth of experience in managing player medical welfare on the strength of being a team that set up the very competent Uganda Rugby Medical Society (URMS) that has continued to lead the way in Africa in this field and a case study for most of the Unions. He has also previously headed the Africa Player medical group.

Kalanzi says that his appointment is a good opportunity to represent URMS at a global stage.

“It’s a good thing to be represented at such a level. We shall share our experience as URMS and this will bridge capacities as all parties will share and learn from each other,” Kalanzi said in an interview adding that this development is also a major boost for the growth of his career.

Currently, Dr. Kalanzi is heading the Uganda Rugby Return To Play COVID-19 management Committee and is also the World Rugby Medical Trainer in Africa where he quality assures a number of medical courses in Africa.

Competitive rugby will return on 6th March and Kalanzi says that domestic teams in Uganda are compliant with URMS to ensure that the game is safely reinstated.
